Christmas Honey, a Sweet&Dirty BBW MC Romance Series novella Page 4
Her lips trembled into a smile, and her gaze softened. "Aww, Jack. You got us a Christmas tree."
"Wanted you to have what you want to celebrate Christmas in our house," he said gruffly.
"Thank you," she said. She walked closer, gaze still on the lighted tree. She stopped close enough to his chair that he could feel her warm presence. "It's... amazing."
Her voice quivered on the last word, and Jack snorted. "Go ahead and laugh, baby. Amazing ain't the word for it. I'm shit at this kinda stuff."
She giggled quietly, and her hand brushed his shoulder in a warm caress. "I love it," she said.
Then she stiffened, her hand tightening on his shoulder. "Jack? Why do you have a cold pac on your face?"
"I'm fine, baby." He tossed the bag of peas onto the nearest end table, and reached to slide his arms around her, and draw her down onto his lap. "C'mere."
She examined his face worriedly, cupping his face in her hands to assess the damage. "Oh, honey, you're gonna have a black eye. Who did this to you? Did that bitch from hell hit you? I will lay her out!"
He grinned at the fury in her eyes. "Fuck no. It was her man Crack. This is his version of 'Hey, how ya been, thanks for watchin' out for my woman.'"
"Oo-ooh!" she growled in her throat. "Sounds like the pair of them deserve each other. Please tell me they're gone for good."
"Should be soon. I called Keys, let him know Crack was comin' in hot. He'll be on guard, and let me know when they leave. Now, I got one more thing to say about them, and then we're done with them for good. The reason I invited Coral to stay with us is, Crack has a hair-trigger temper, an' she's the one makes him lose it the fastest. He wants to take out every man who looks at her. She came up here in a stupid stunt designed to make him 'appreciate her'. Thing is, if I'd turned her loose in Coeur d'Alene, that would've been bad news."
"She would've gone to the bars and found some local guy to fool around with," Lindi guessed. Her lip curled. "I know how her kind operates. Not happy unless they're causing trouble, and starting fights."
"That's right. So it was either pretend to be her fall guy and then scrape her off soon as I could, or set up some other poor sucker for worse. At least, if Crack knew she was with a Flyers brother, any trouble he caused stayed in the club. I knew I could out-fight him, whereas a civilian might end up dead. The club does not need that kinda publicity right now."
"Out-fight him?" Her brows went up. "Does that mean he looks worse than you?"
Jack grinned at her. "Let's just say his nose was even more crooked than usual, and he was holdin' his ribs as he walked away."
She sighed, straightening a lock of his hair. "Good. And I get why you did things that way. But in the future, please don't let skanks close enough to kiss you. Herpes, hello?"
He pulled her closer. "She surprised me, and I played along to keep her good-tempered until I could start feedin' her drinks. It was a bad situation all around."
"The things you gotta do for your club, huh?"
"Smart-ass. I'll make sure we don't have any repeats. Now c'mere. Done talkin' about them, wanna talk about us."
When she was snuggled close in his arms, a weight slipped from his shoulders. "Love you, Lindi."
She kissed him, her soft lips yielding under his, her arms coming up around his neck. "Love you too, Jack. And I'm sorry," she mumbled against his lips. "I was a bitch to you."
"Yeah, but I get why," he told her, drinking in her scent. "I'm sorry too. So even though I like your pretty new red wrap, whaddya say you go on up and slip into something comfortable, and we'll--"
His phone vibrated in his pocket. Then it emitted an alarm.
They jerked apart, and Jack grabbed his phone, silencing it. "Damn, I gotta go. Time for the final inspection."
Lindi nodded, already crawling off his lap. He rose with her, his gut tightening with anticipation. "This is it," he told her. "We pass this, we're golden."
"You want me to come down to Stingers with you?"
"No, no." He bent to give her one last kiss, and patted her hip. "You stay here, relax. I'll be back in an hour, give or take. Then we'll get back to what we were doin'."
"And just what were we doing, Jack?" she called after him as he strode for the corner room they'd made their home office.
"Celebratin' Christmas our way!" he called back. He was smiling to himself as he grabbed his keys and jacket.

When Jack's truck had rolled off down the drive, Lindi got busy. She carried her shopping bags upstairs to her closet.
She hung up her new poncho, bought on sale at TJ Maxx, stroking the soft wool with a smile. Nothing like a new purchase to make a girl feel better.
Under it she wore her faborite pair of skinny jeans and a red sweater with a wide neckline that slid from one shoulder. She traded her boots and socks for a pair of red velveteen flats, also bought at a bargain price.
Then she hurried downstairs to fix their Christmas tree. With Lady Antebellum singing through their new sound system about a special winter night, she was smiling to herself as she wove the strings of lights, and re-distributed ornaments.
The tree was missing a topper, and there weren't enough ornaments for its thick green boughs, but when she plugged the lights in, they twinkled on, casting a holiday glow over the room and out to the dusk beyond.
This tree was special. It was their first in their new home, and its very presence said Jack loved her, and wanted to make their house a home, with her. When he came back up the drive he would see it, a beacon calling him home.
And by its light later on, she'd give Jack her news that by next Christmas, they'd be a family of three.
As the Tractors sang, welcoming everyone aboard Santa's boogie-woogie choo-choo train, she two-stepped her way into the kitchen to make supper.
Her phone sounded, Jack's ringtone of 'American Honey' by Lady A. Her heart speeding up, Lindi grabbed it. "Hi, how'd it go?"
"We passed!" he told her, his voice jubilant. "The county guy said it was one of the easiest inspections he's ever done. We're all up to code. Stingers is ready to open!"
Lindi squealed with excitement. "Oh, my God! Honey, that's wonderful."
"Damn straight. All right, I gotta close up, and then I'm headed up the hill."
"I'll be waiting for you."
His voice softened. "Yeah. Soon, baby."

When Jack walked in from the garage, he inhaled deeply. "Oh, babe, are you cookin' what I think you are?"
Lindi turned from the counter where she was tearing lettuce for salad. She smiled at him. "Twice-baked potatoes and meatloaf."
"My favorite."
She giggled softly as they met in the middle of the kitchen and he pulled her against him, her soft curves meeting his hardness. "You say that about everything I cook."
"Damn near everything you cook is my favorite. 'Cause you spoil me. But tonight, it's my favorite because I happen to know it's a meal that can stay hot for a while and not be ruined."
She tipped her face up and smiled at him, her eyes going heavy. "And why's that?"
He was already on the move, urging her toward the stairs. "'Cause I got a taste for you first. And that means supper can wait."
In their bedroom, he kissed her, reveling in the taste of her mouth under his, and then peeled her carefully out of her sweater and jeans. His hands on her satiny skin, he urged her back on the edge of the bed, reveling in the sight and the feel of her, bounteous and lush in red lace.
"Fuck, you look like the naughtiest Christmas present ever," he told her, dropping to his knees between her thighs. "And I'm the man who gets to unwrap you."
She cupped his head in her hands, her fingers in his hair. "Yes, you are." But when he would have leaned in to kiss her again, she stopped him, worry filling her eyes. "Jack... I have something to tell you. And, um, you may not be happy right at first, but... it will be good. Because we'll make it all work."
His heart swelling until
his chest felt tight, Jack interrupted her with another kiss, this one gentle and sweet. "Babe. I know we will. Hold on, got something for you, an early present. Meant to put it under the tree, but I think now's the time."
"Oh," she breathed. "Okay. I, um, have an early gift for you too."
He headed into his closet, and she ducked into hers. They met at the bed, Lindi holding something behind her back, and Jack holding a small gift bag. The bag was pale blue, with a happy snowman cavorting in glitter snow.
She sat, and he dropped to one knee, handing her the bag. "You open this one first," he told her. "Then maybe you can quit lookin' at me like you got a bomb about to go off there."
"Okay," she said doubtfully. She reached into the bag, and pulled out a wad of tissue paper. This dropped to her lap as she lifted out the contents. She held it up, her mouth falling open as she read the cheery red lettering on the white newborn suit. "'Daddy's Best X-mas Gift Ever'," she read aloud.
Her eyes filled with tears, and her face crumpled. "Oh, Jack," she wailed, and flung herself into his arms. "Oh, my God. How did you know? And you're not mad?"
He rocked back onto his heels, holding her close. "Mad? Fuck no. Why would I be mad, baby? We're gonna be a family. That's the best Christmas surprise ever."
"Aww-ww." She kissed him, and gave him a tearful smile before holding up the blue onesie. "So I guess this is no surprise, after all?"
He beamed back at her, not even wincing as the movement tweaked his black eye. "Well, it sure as fuck was a surprise when I saw that pregnancy test this morning on your closet floor. But it's the best kinda surprise, Lindi. Right after you sayin' you wanna be my woman."
She tugged him closer, so they were flush against each other, her arms and legs clinging to him. "Oh, Jack. I was so afraid you'd be upset. We're so busy, and when Stingers opens, our lives will be even crazier."
He cupped her face in his hand. "Yeah, but we'll roll with it. We have each other, we got good help, and our friends have our backs. We also both have moms panting to be grandmas again. Hell, we'll be lucky to get our hands on our own kid once in while."
She giggled, as he meant her to. He could feel her relax against him. "You're right. We do have this. Oh, I'm so happy, Jack."
"Good. Now whaddya say I make you even happier? Then you can make us both happy, an' then we'll go down and eat that fantastic supper you made?"
"I say, Merry Christmas to us."
They kissed deeply, lost in each other.
Outside, it began to snow, promising a white Christmas for North Idaho.
